接触器不能用作缺相保护器，因为接触器不能检测到缺相故障，缺相可采用具有缺相保护功能的热继电器作为检测元件，使接触器跳闸，具体接线与正常的热继电器保护回路没有区别，是一样的。（采用电动机综合保护器也可以）
通常是把热保护器装在接触器的前面，虽然过载保护的作用是一样的，但一般不这样接线。热保护器动作后进线端子仍然带电，复位时要注意。
接触器控制回路的电源线就不能从135端子上引，布线麻烦些。
